In the lab, the research team explores evolvable hardware and genetic algorithms. We have worked to develop custom search robots known as "mitEbots" and have now moved on to working with the E-puck hardware while developing better search and dispersion algorithms. Topics such as robust neural networks particle swarm algorithms have been explored in this lab.

The primary focus of the research in recent years has been to develop robot swarms to perform search tasks in areas that would be potentially dangerous to humans. Applications such as search and rescue, bomb detection, and planetary exploration have been discused.
