Internal Structures of the Mammalian Eye

The internal structures of the mammalian eye contain the same basic structures and functions as stated on the avian page.

Embryologically, these eye structures are a composite formed from mesenchyme and the optic placode. Ectoderm gives rise to the cornea and lens, while mesenchyme forms the choroid and sclera. The optic cup also gives rise to the iris and retina.
