Southern Leopard Frog

 

 
2-5 long, the common frog of dissections.  Slender and narrow-headed, green to brown, with large dark spots between light colored dorsolateral ridges, which are continuous to the groin.  Light stripe along upper jay, and typically, a light spot in the center of the tympanum.  Voice is a series of short throaty croaks, Crrrrrrkkkkkkkkkkkk.  Found in virtually any freshwater area, breeds March to June with egg masses laid in shallow water, often colonial.  Primarily nocturnal, often used for frog legs.
