Robotics 2008 Camp
Day 4 -- June 19, 2008
MSU Evening Group
Today, the campers were introduced to the engineering and
programming concepts focused around light and sound sensors. The light sensors
allowed campers to drive their
robots over a darker line to trigger them to stop.
"Line Stopper," and
"Follow the Line" were the two
beginning challenges campers tackled using the light sensors . The
"Hit Red Ball" challenge gave campers the chance to add light
and ultrasonic sensors to the driving base. This allowed the light
sensor to determine what color a ball was and then to either reverse direction
on a blue ball or strike a red ball. This
was the major challenge of the day. After completing these challenges campers
began working with the sound sensors. Campers used the sound sensor and
programming skills to make the robotic vehicle move forward and turn left when
loud sounds were made.
Teams learned a variety of skills all in preparation for the Robot Derby
events to be held on Day Five. Parents, grandparents, family, and friends - you
are all welcome to join the Derby Day events at 5:00 so your camper can demonstrate
some of his or her projects. Bring your cameras and be ready to experience
MSU Robotics Camp 2008 at
its finest! Parents are also encouraged to attend the live hook-up with
Japan at 7:00.
