Rabbits and Hares
(Lagomorpha)

Eastern Cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus)
Rear Track
Measurements:
Front: 3.2 (L) x 1.9 (W)cm
Rear: 4.4 x 2 cm
Stride: 20 cm (can be much longer)

Running or bounding pattern of the eastern cottontail.  Here we see that the front feet are almost in a straight line (F.L. and F.R.).  This rabbit was headed toward the right side of the screen.  Notice the soil push to the back of the two rear foot tracks (right side of screen).  This indicates that this rabbit was pushing of fairly hard.
