This is a coyote's hind foot track on top of its front foot
track.  The animal was heading toward the right side of
the screen. The hind foot usually leaves a very round
heelpad impression in coyotes.  Coyotes may also be
discerned from wolves and dogs by the fact that their
outer toes are bigger than their inner toes.  In the rear
track shown, the outer toes were 18 mm wide while the
inner toes were only 14.5 mm wide.

Red fox (Vulpes fulva) front track.
Red fox usually show a bar-shaped depression
parallel to the rear edge of their front track.
You may also see the imprints of hairs from
their furry feet in very soft mud.

Red fox rear track.
Furry feet show up well here.
