Notes:  The dermatocranium of the skull are dermal bones that ossify within dense connective tissues.  It is derived from the dermal armor of early fossil fishes.  The dermatocranium covers the sides and roof of the brain, along with the neurocranium in the palate and covers the cartilage that forms in the jaws.
