Section 1.6 is due on MyLab tonight - make sure you get it done before the deadline! Joysheet 4 was handed out in class today and is due on Monday.
Exam 1, covering sections 1.1-1.6 is scheduled for Wednesday. Check out sample exam 1 on the "scores and docs" page and start practicing for the exam. Give yourself 50 minutes to do the exam and see how well you do. If you miss many problems or cannot finish, this means you need to practice more. Fortunately, lots of sample exams are posted on the MOTHERLODE.
On Monday, we will continue with lectures over sections 2.1 and 2.2 (not on exam 1) and on Tuesday we will work on a sample exam in class.
Home, 9/11
Section 1.4 is due on MyLab on Saturday - work on it if you have not started yet. Joysheet 3 was distributed yesterday and is due on Monday.
Our first in-class joysheet - yesterday - was not very encouraging. A lot of people seemed to struggle with basic knowledge from sections 1.3 and 1.4 - I guess they must not have done the homework (yet...). These are important (and simple) concepts and everyone has to make sure they understand equations of lines and how to get them. Therefore, it is essential that you do homework in section 1.4 and I recommend that you also complete the in-class joysheet 3 before you start the take-home one. (We didn't finish it in class, so you should.) This will give you more practice in material about lines.
On Monday, we will finish lectures over section 1.5 and then start homework discussion over it.

Section 1.3 is due on MyLab on Saturday - work on it if you have not started yet. Joysheet 1 was due today - bring it on Tuesday if you did not turn it in. Joysheet 2 was distributed in class today and is due on Wednesday. If you dd not get a copy and would like one before Tuesday, you can always find all of our joysheets at the link above.
On Tuesday, we will finish section 1.4. Bring a graphing calculator if you have one.

Sections JIT 7, 8 and 10 are due on MyLab on Saturday. Other JIT sections are due next week, as we complete homework discussion over them.
On Monday, we continue with homework discussion of sections JIT 15 and 16, followed by section 1.2. Afterwards, I will start lecturing on section 1.3.

We have started working on homework, with sections JIT 9 and 12 completed today. Let me reiterate that you can always find board images on Canvas/Files in files named after the sections they cover.
The first batch of homeworks on MyLab (Orientation, JIT 9, 12, 13, 18) is due on Wednesday. Three people from the class do not yet appear on the roster on MyLab: please use this weekend to get connected with MyLab and start working on the homework (see info on this in the previous post, below).
On Monday, we continue discussing homework from sections JIT 13 and 18, followed by section 1.1.
Free tutoring at the Ross Center starts on Monday, and starts on Sep 8th at the Lowry Center. Check the "free tutoring" link for more information.

Welcome to the course! Look around to familiarize yourself with the layout of these webpages. To get to other pages, click on the links in the menu (or drop-down, if viewing on a smartphone). The most often used pages are in the first line of the menu (or the first several choices of the drop-down). "Scores and docs," for example, has all the documents for the course.
Your first exercise is to find the syllabus on these pages and read it. The most important items there are in larger font.
These pages will get more content as information becomes available. Check back often: useful information is provided in the "home" section (which you are reading), typically updated weekly. For now, here is some information on the textbook, online homework and Canvas.
Textbook and online homework: In this course, you have signed up for "Inclusive Access," which automatically bills you for access to the online homework system and includes the e-book. You can access these materials by clicking on Canvas/Course Materials. If you do not already have a Pearson account, you will need to create it and then link it to your Canvas account.
Canvas: Canvas will only be the repository of class notes and your grades. Information about the course and weekly messages will be posted to this website (also accessible from Canvas). (Why bother with the website outside of Canvas? Two reasons: it's easier to make updates to it, and it stays public. I value this, and you may grow to as well, as a service to future students of this course.)
Lecture notes: I will distribute the printed notes in class. Have these with you so that you can follow the lectures in class without having to copy a lot. The filled-in notes written in class are posted on Canvas.
