used with medium to large networks as well as the Internet. It will look
at inter-network devices and network services, allowing participants to evaluate
their
strengths and weaknesses. The participant will be able to apply the information
to a larger network environment while understanding the difficulties related
to multi network design and set up. This course will provide a deeper
background
for those wanting to enter a certification pathway or those wanting a
broader understanding beyond the local area network environment . Available
Now.
4. TSM 013 Industrial Networking – Jim Benson, Associate Professor
of Industrial and Engineering Technology, Murray State University.
The utilization of telecommunications systems in the decision making process
of manufacturing and other industrial environments will be studied. The course

control with information technology systems can enhance real time operations
resulting in a more efficient business operation thereby increasing profitability
for companies. Availability: TBA
Issues about Security and Assurance
Perhaps no other aspect of technology has arisen faster than security issues.
The following three short courses will provide insight into the nature of
information assurance and how to approach different solutions to various
components of a business operation. Infrastructure as well as information
needs to be secured from outside sources.
5. TSM 021 Fundamentals of Information Security – Michael
Ramage, Director of Networks and Special Projects, Telecommunications Systems Management, Murray
State University
This course will introduce students to the fundamental issues of Information
Security and Assurance. Security of information will be presented from three
perspectives: confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Various access
control methodologies will be investigated. Students will learn about common
threats facing a typical organization, as well as issues and vulnerabilities
associated with an organization’s normal use of both networks and the

in these short courses will provide the manager and implementer with needed
knowledge to pursue this fast moving industry.
7. TSM 031 Cellular Network Design– Abdul Yarali, Associate Professor
of Telecommunications Systems Management, Murray State University
The cellular industry began developing second generation (2G) systems in
the early 1980’s. The industry development will be traced showing how
mobile communications has moved from simple voice to rich media, where the
user utilizes more of their senses to gain useful information. Mobile system
design and optimization is a key in meeting the needs of cellular system expansion.
Information presented will allow engineers and managers of mobile communications
to evaluate applications of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), Global System
for Mobile (GSM) and Time Multiple Access (TMA). The course will reveal the
role mobile technology will play in the consumer market place automating manual
tasks resulting in data error reduction and cost savings, time saving and
