TITLE: Introduction to the Profession

  1. CATALOG DESCRIPTION:
    A student (transfer or regular) who has not enrolled in and earned 12 hours prior to his/her first semester at Murray State University must take freshman orientation.

  2. COURSE OBJECTIVES:
    1. Assist you in making the transition to college in general, and more specifically to Murray State University.
    2. Familiarize you with the purpose and desired outcomes of higher education.
    3. Assist you in the process of developing positive relationships with both instructors and peers.
    4. Strengthen your knowledge of academic policies, especially those procedures and regulations most important for your success at Murray State.
    5. Inform you about the variety of support service resources available to you here.
    6. Encourage exploration of relationships between your courses and education and your goals.
    7. Promote an appreciation of cultural diversity.
    8. Facilitate the development of skills that will make you a more successful learner and college student.

  4. ATTENDENCE:
    Class attendance will be recorded. You are expected to be prompt and regular in class attendance and be fully prepared to contribute to class discussions. Absence from more than two class sessions will result in a failing grade. Students requiring special assistance due to a disability should inform the instructor as soon as possible.

  5. Academic Honesty Policy:
    It is the policy of the College of Business and Public Affairs that all instances of academic dishonesty will receive appropriate punitive action from the professor, and the names of students involved in acts of academic dishonesty will be reported in every instance to the Dean.

  6. GRADING PROCEDURES:
    This course is graded on a pass/fail basis. You pass this course by:
    1. Attending class and participating in class activities (missing more than two classes will yield a failing grade).
    2. Completing class assignments as they are required without delays and extensions.
    3. Meeting with your assigned faculty advisor at least once.
