VOICE MAIL USER SETUP INSTRUCTIONS
You must obtain permission from the appropriate Vice President before using voice mail between the hours of 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
These instructions will not work until a voice mail account has been activated through the Telecommunications Office. Call 4400 for details or to request a Voice Mail Request Form. Before using the voice mail system, you must setup your subscriber mailbox. The instructions to setup your mailbox are listed below. These instructions must be followed completely or your voice mail will not work correctly. If you have any questions, please call the Telecommunications Office at 4400.
Setup Step 1: Accessing Your Subscriber Mailbox
- Enter 3550 if you are on campus or 809-3550 if you are calling from off campus.
- Enter the # key if your call is originating off campus.
- Enter your subscriber mailbox if requested. This is your MSU extension number. You will need to enter your extension number if calling from off campus or calling from an extension other than your own.
- Enter your security code. If this is the first time you have accessed your mailbox, your security code is "0000".
NOTE: If calling from an extension other than your own, dial 3550 + * + # then proceed with Step 1 item c.
Setup Step 2: Changing Your Security Code
- Follow the previous step to access your mailbox.
- Press 3 to access Phone Manager.
- Press 1 to access the Personal Options menu in Phone Manager.
- Press 4 to change your security code.
- When asked, enter a new security code. Use a number combination or 0-9 followed by the # key. Your security code can be any number of digits from four to fifteen. Try to avoid using simple combinations such as your mailbox number or "1234".
- Listen to the voice mail system repeat the security code you just entered.
- If your security code is correct, press 1. If it is incorrect, press 9 and re-enter a new security code.
Setup Step 3: Recording Your Name
- After changing your security code, press 5 at the Personal Options menu to record your name. When recording your name, do not include an introduction such as "Hello, this is…" because the voice mail system already provides the introduction.
- Press 2 to begin recording. State your name. Press 2 again to stop recording.
- After recording your name, you can:
- Press 6 to review your name.
- Press 4 to discard your name and start over.
- Press * to cancel and exit the Personal Options menu, without saving your recorded name.
- When you are satisfied with your recorded name, press 5 to save it.
Setup Step 4: Recording a Personal Greeting
- Once you have recorded your name, press 3 at the Personal Options menu to record a personal greeting.
- Press 2 to start recording. State your greeting message. Press 2 again to stop recording.
- At this point you can:
- Press 6 to review your greeting.
- Press 4 to discard your greeting and start over.
- Press * to cancel and exit the Personal Options menu without saving your recorded greeting.
- When you are satisfied with your recording, press 5 to save it.
- Hang up.
Setup Step 5: Forward Calls to Voice Mail System NOTE: If Step 5 is not performed, Voice Mail will not answer calls.
- Pick up phone.
- Dial *72 3550 to forward your calls to your voice mailbox when your extension is busy.
- Hang up.
- Pick up phone.
- Dial *74 3550 to forward your calls to your voice mailbox when there is no answer at your extension.
- Hang up.
NOTE: To transfer a caller to someone else’s mailbox:
- Press TRF or depress the hook-switch.
- Dial 3550 and wait for the message "Invalid entry".
- Dial 8 plus the extension that you are transferring to.
- Hang up.
