Dialing Instructions
On-Campus Calls
Murray State University owns, operates, and maintains its own telephone system. Because the university has an internal system, you may reach Murray State telephone numbers from a campus phone by dialing the last four digits of the telephone number. These numbers may be found in the campus telephone directory or at the following locations:
Local Off-Campus Call
Dial 9 (to be connected to an outside line) + the seven digit phone number. When you dial 9, you will not receive a second dial tone.
The local dialing area includes the following prefixes: 474, 435, 436, 437, 492, 489, 498, 753, 759, 762, and 767.
Long Distance Call
(Faculty and Staff) Domestic Call: Dial 1 + 9 + area code + seven digit phone number. This is a toll call.
(Faculty and Staff) International Call: Dial 1 + 9 + 011 + country code + city code + phone number.
Collect Call: Dial 9 + 0 + area code + seven digit phone number.
Credit Card Call: Dial 9 + 0 area code + seven digit phone number.

Telephone Repair
To report a problem with your telephone service or equipment between the hours or 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., contact the Telephone Repair Office at 4400. If reporting a phone problem during the evening or on the weekend, please leave a message and we will prepare a work order as soon as the office opens.
