Service Opportunities

Merryman House
The mission of the Merryman House is to provide appropriate physical, emotional and strategic support to families and/or individuals experiencing domestic violence. Our mission also includes resolution of the abusive behavior, which may require the types of temporary support services offered through the program.

Volunteers will be involved in indoor painting, hanging artwork, and placement of furniture in a therapy room for children. 7 volunteers needed.

Needline
Needline, a community and church cooperative ministry, is a non-profit social service agency of Murray and Calloway County, Kentucky. It exists to give assistance to persons in need.

The Backpack Program mission: To meet the needs of hungry children by providing them with food to take home on weekends.

Volunteers will bag food items for the Backpack Program. 30 volunteers needed.

Calloway County 4-H
The Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service serves as a link between the counties of the Commonwealth and the state’s land grant universities to help people improve their lives through an educational process focusing on their issues and needs.

The Calloway County 4-H Council serves to provide programs and activities of 4 H-ers. The 4-H Council provides leadership and direction of the 4-H program. 4-H strives to assist youth to develop into productive citizens of Calloway County.

Volunteers will help clean up and organize the storage area for a local riding club. 50 volunteers needed.

Gentry House
The Gentry House has a philosophy and a staff dedicated to the proposition that all homeless persons are deserving of and shall be provided with the resources to enable them to become proficient and respectful of self, in a life-style free of worry and worthy of mankind.

Volunteers will help prepare and paint one of three apartments. 15 volunteers needed.

American Red Cross
The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. It does this through services that are consistent with its congressional charter and the fundamental principles of the international Red Cross movement.

The American Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at St. John Episcopal Church in Murray. Volunteers are needed to help with registration, canteen, pass out flyers and hold signs that advertise the blood drive. 25 volunteers needed.

Murray-Calloway County Senior Citizen’s Center
The mission of the Murray-Calloway County Senior Citizen's Center is to encourage and assist senior citizens to lead independent, fulfilling lives in their own homes and to provide an atmosphere that is conducive to their mental, physical and emotional well-being.

Volunteers will help seniors by replacing light bulbs, completing odd jobs and yardwork. 20 volunteers needed.
