The Murray State University McNair Scholars Program is designed to encourage and prepare eligibleundergraduate students in all disciplines for doctoral study through involvement in research and other scholarly activities.
Participation in the McNair program is open to full-time undergraduates from first-generation-college, low-income families or to students from traditionally underrepresented groups who have demonstrated strong academic potential.
Program Benefits
Obtaining a Ph.D. increases one’s earning power and job opportunities. McNair participants have a unique opportunity to engage in an in-depth, faculty-guided research project that gives them an edge when applying to graduate school.
McNair Program participants are part of a supportive community which includes other scholars who share the same aspiration of getting a Ph.D. and work to create new knowledge in their field. Staff members are dedicated to seeing Scholars be successful and achieve their goals.

The MSU Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program is 81.2% funded by the U.S. Department of Education under grant #P217A090330 at $225,000 annually, and 18.8% state funded at $52,000 annually.
