MINUTES

The Academic Council held a meeting at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2003, in the Freed Curd Auditorium in the Collins Center for Industry and Technology with Gary Brockway, Chair, presiding. The meeting was called to order at 3:31 p.m.

MEMBERS PRESENT: Charlotte Beahan, Tony Brannon, Janet Brewer, Gary Brockway, Andy Gannon, Sharon Gill, Dannie Harrison, Gail Hendon, Martin Jacobs, Sandra Jordan, Mike Kemp, Ann Landini, Bob Lochte, Linda McCreight, Jay Morgan, Janis Murphy, Mike Perlow, Bob Pilgrim, Kelly Rogers, Jim Rudolph, Bill Schell, Peggy Schrock, Bert Siebold, Neil Weber, Pam Wurgler, John Yates.

MEMBERS ABSENT: Betty Blodgett, Rose Bogal-Allbritten, John Crofton, Jetta Culpepper, Donna Harris, Mark Masthay, Jack Rose, Steve Schneiderman.

  1. The minutes of the Academic Council meeting of February 13, 2003, were approved as submitted.

  2. Undergraduate Studies Committee Report - Jetta Culpepper, Chair Vice Chair Andy Gannon reported that the following proposals were approved by the Undergraduate Studies Committee and recommended approval, motion carried.

This document was drafted in line with the CPE review process and should serve colleges and departments as a guide in the submission of new programs.

Provost Brockway gave some background information about the CPE campus visit last year and the recommendations for new program approval process that came out as a result of that visit. He also explained how the new programs are posted to the CPE website for a 45 day review and after that time the CPE takes action on the new program.

He asked the Council to review this document, share with departments and if possible, recommend this document for approval at the next Academic Council meeting.

Dr. Brockway thanked members of the task force and applauded them for their hard work.
