MINUTES

The Academic Council held a meeting at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2003, in the Freed Curd Auditorium in the Collins Center for Industry and Technology with Gary Brockway, Chair, presiding. The meeting was called to order at 3:31 p.m.

1. The minutes of the Academic Council meeting of February 13, 2003, were approved as submitted.
   
   
2. Undergraduate Studies Committee Report - Jetta Culpepper, Chair Vice Chair Andy Gannon reported that the following proposals were approved by the Undergraduate Studies Committee and recommended approval, motion carried.
   
   • HUM 496: Digital Interactive Media Design Projects (3 credit hours)
     
   • HIS: Changes to the History curriculum, including new courses:
     

   HIS 304: History of Ireland (3 credit hours)
   HIS 305: The Irish Diaspora (3 credit hours)
   HIS 355: Islamic Middle East (3 credit hours)
   

   HIS 414: Europe during WWI and WWII (3 credit hours)
   HIS 415: Women in History (3 credit hours)
   HIS 456: The Arab-Israeli Conflict (3 credit hours)
   HIS 476: The World Since 1945 (3 credit hours)
   HIS 478: Comparative Civilizations after 1500 (3 credit hours)

   • TSM: Changes in the curriculum of the TSM Bachelor's Degree, including the creation of a Business Technology and E-Business Application Option and the deletion of the E- Commerce Option and Business Applications Option. New courses include:
     

   TSM 132: Network Technical Support (3 credit hours)
   TSM 218: Telecommunications Electronics II (3 credit hours)
   TSM 353: Network Security (3 credit hours)
   TSM 440: Information Policy and Security Auditing (3 credit hours)

   • AGR: Comprehensive changes to the Agriculture Academic Program, new courses include:
     

   AGR 102: Beginning Hunt Seat Equitation (1 credit hour)
   AGR 103: Intermediate Hunt Seat Equitation (1 credit hour)
   AGR 104: Advanced Hunt Seat Equitation (1 credit hour)
   AGR 106: Beginning Stock Seat Equitation (1 credit hour)
   AGR 107: Intermediate Stock Seat Equitation (1 credit hour)

This document was drafted in line with the CPE review process and should serve colleges and departments as a guide in the submission of new programs.

Provost Brockway gave some background information about the CPE campus visit last year and the recommendations for new program approval process that came out as a result of that visit. He also explained how the new programs are posted to the CPE website for a 45 day review and after that time the CPE takes action on the new program.

He asked the Council to review this document, share with departments and if possible, recommend this document for approval at the next Academic Council meeting.

Dr. Brockway thanked members of the task force and applauded them for their hard work.
