Robotics 2007 Camp
Day 1 -- June 11, 2007
Murray State Afternoon Group
The first day of Robotics Camp 2007 in Murray, Kentucky, was a success. The campers began the day by gathering around the virtual campfire and discussing the plans for the day and for the week. The first activity was "" which challenged campers to build a bridge which spanned two stationary abutments and would successfully hold a golf ball. The record was 72.5 cm. Secondly, campers took that knowledge to build a tower which would successfully hold the golf ball in the air a high as possible. This activity, called "Tower of Terror" enabled students to test their basic building skills with a different outcome. The record for this camp activity was 80 cm. After a quick break, the teams focused on using good building and friction-reducing techniques. This challenge, "Coast for the Most," required campers to construct a vehicle which would travel down a ramp and roll the greatest distance. This early construction activity will be helpful when the campers build robotic vehicles later in the week.
