Robotics 2006 Camp
Day 1 - June 12, 2006
Murray State Afternoon Group

The first day of Robotics Camp 2006 in Murray, Kentucky, was a success.  The campers began the afternoon by gathering around the virtual campfire and discussing the plans for the day and for the week.  Campers worked individually and as a group to complete their first day's activities. The first activity was "Coast for the Most,"  which required campers to focus on using good building techniques to create vehicles that would coast as far as possible after going down a long ramp. They also worked on reducing friction as much as possible. The campers were challenged to build a three-wheeled vehicle that would coast down the ramp. This challenge presented a different type of building techniques which were completed successfully by all campers. This early construction activity will be helpful when participants build robotic vehicles later in the camp. A second challenge was introduced, "Build the Tallest Tower."  Campers were asked to design a tower using a set of  Lego Dacta ® that was as tall as possible and could support a golf ball.. The record for the tallest tower was 86 cm

Both campers and staff are looking forward to tomorrow! We will be using gears, pulleys, and solar panels to create some very interesting vehicles!
