Getting started! Today we met each other, formed teams, and got
to work. Our first challenge was called "Coast for the Most." We had to
design and build a LEGO car that would coast as far as possible after going
down a long ramp. Later, we built vehicles with the goal of constructing
them to be as long as possible with the materials each team had. Each pair
had to consider design issues dealing with how their vehicle would go down
the ramp, and then accommodate their design. We also designed a three-wheeled
vehicle that carried a passenger. From this, we learned good building techniques
and how to reduce friction in our cars. This will be helpful when we build
our robotic vehicles later in the camp. As you can see, these engineering
teams used many different sizes of wheels on their vhicles.
