Robotics 2002 Camp
Day 1, June 10, 2002
MSU Afternoon Group

Getting started! Today we met each other, formed teams, and got to work. Our first challenge was called "Coast for the Most." We had to design and build a LEGO car that had anywhere from one to six wheels and one passenger that would coast as far as possible after going down a long ramp. Later, we added larger wheels which required each team to think of different methods of construction to achieve their goals of coasting the most.

Next, we built with the objective of constructing the longest vehicle possible without dragging or breaking  From this, we learned good building techniques and teamwork, and how to reduce friction in our cars. This will be helpful when we build our robotic vehicles later in the camp.  Our records for the day were: 80' 6" for the greatest distance traveled and 84" for the longest vehicle. WOW!
