First and foremost the studio records live events. Faculty, guest and student recitals, ensemble concerts, etc. are all similar in that we have one shot at getting it down on "tape" (there are no second takes).

Some performers want the microphones to be as invisible as possible and are quite willing to sacrifice recording quality for the live aesthetic. Others are not bothered at all by microphones and stands within inches of their stage position.

We attend every recital that appears on the calendar with the intention of making the best recording we can. However, if we are contacted ahead of time, we can tailor our approach according to the performer's preference.

We also record sessions (by special appointment) in which the concerns of live recording are thrown to the wind. Multiple takes, mastering (and, if permissible, editing) help our more involved productions compare favorably to professionally produced CDs.
