The annual Purchase Area Writing Project Summer Institute is a joint effort between Murray State University and the Kentucky Writing Project. Funded by the Kentucky Department of Education and the National Writing Project, the program provides public school teachers with four weeks of intensive training and practice to promote improved writing and literacy instruction in the public schools. The 2017 PAWP Summer Institute is scheduled for June 5 - June 23, 2017.
Goals include:
The Institute is limited to 20 participants. Applicants must be full-time teachers in a Kentucky public school system grades K-12. Teachers from all content areas are encouraged to apply. Participants must agree to serve as writing consultants during the 2017-2018 academic year.
Participants receive six hours of graduate credit in ENG 604 and ENG 605 (PAWP I & II).
Classes meet from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with an hour for lunch, Monday through Friday.
Murray State University tuition is waived, and the Project provides a $550.00 stipend for each participant. All participants must purchase a summer parking permit, and pay $25 toward the cost of the textbook.
