The Christmas Shoe Box Project
For the past several years, the Rotaract Club of Murray State University has participated in Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child Project. Students and organizations throughout campus fill shoe boxes with toys, candy, and other small gifts and put them in drop-off locations in the residential colleges and the Curris Center. These gifts are then transported by Samaritan's Purse to children who would otherwise not be able to receive a Christmas gift.
How You Can Help!
Hundred's of children around the world will not get anything for Christmas this year because of poverty, but you can help!
- Get an ordinary shoe box or a plastic shoe box ($0.88 at Walmart)
- Fill it with small gifts! Some ideas are toys, puzzles, games, hard candy, coloring books, crayons, sunglasses, T-shirts, hats, toothpaste, soap, stuffed animals, etc.
Dollar Stores are great pleaces to shop! NO chocolate, liquids, or war toys please.
- Wrap your shoe box (lid and bottom separately) and put a rubber band around it. Label it for a boy or a girl, ages 2-4, 5-9, 10-14.
- Place it in a Drop-off box in your residential college lobby or the Curris Center. Your box will be hand delivered to a needy boy or girl in an impoverished country.
Deadline: 12 Noon - Wednesday, November 16!
These boxes only take about half an hour to make and aren't expensive! So make one or two and make a difference!
Fundraising For Your Club
This year, the Rotaract Club is offering a prize for the organization (greek, residential college, professional, etc.) that creates the most number of shoe boxes for the Shoe Box Project. Rotaract will donate $50 to the winner's favorite philanthropy in their name.
Wrapping Party
We will once again have a wrapping party around the deadline to help people put the final touches on any unfinished boxes. Check back soon for more details.
