An invitation to join MSUARC

The Murray Sate Amateur Radio Club is comprised of members from various backgrounds.  Though we all have individual differences, we all share our interest in the hobby of amateur radio with its many facets.  Some of us like to do public and emergency service (community events, weather watches, ARES, etc).  Others like to work DX, CW, digital, contesting or simply "rag chewing".   Many of our members prefer the two-meter aspect of communication locally via the Club’s  repeaters. Some members’ schedules do not allow any active participation, but they still join because they want to support the club.

One of the club's more important goals is to recruit prospective hams into this wonderful hobby.   We offer testing sessions to allow members to upgrade their licenses or to start new in the hobby.  With the recent changes by the Federal Communications Commission, the licensing process is much easier.  There is a no-code license available just by passing an easy multiple-choice test.  This Technicians Class license is the normal entry into the hobby.  Passing a five word-per-minute code test gives the operator more privileges.  Proof of past licensing can make upgrading easy---sometimes without talking an exam. The General and Extra Class licenses are easier as well. No additional code test to take beyond the 5 wpm. Even if you have an expired license, with the proper documentation, you may have an advantage of not having to take a code test again. Yes, even the top license class has only a 5-word-per-minute requirement.  Once you are licensed, you can exchange your longer call sign for a preferred one.  Handicapped people can be tested under special accommodating conditions.

Since MSUARC is a designated school club, there are two classes of membership:
