The Democratic Party supports a comprehensive energy plan, one that promotes
responsible exploration and development while protecting the environment and
consumers. Democrats support conservation efforts, increasing research into
renewable energy sources and relief for energy consumers in the wake of rising
energy costs.
In contrast, President Bush and Republicans have written, behind closed doors,
an energy plan that fails to account for the needs of consumers or the
environment, while paying lip-service to programs that promote renewable energy
sources. In addition, the Bush plan has proposed drilling in our national
monuments, Great Lakes, and coastal areas where valuable natural resources would
be put at risk.
