Civil Rights

The Democratic Party realizes that despite undeniable progress over the last several decades, inequality and polarization persist in far too many American workplaces, schools, and communities. Democrats are committed to continuing the historic fight to end discrimination. The Clinton-Gore Administration fought hard to end discrimination, increasing funding for civil rights enforcement - so that the laws on our books are not just pleasant words, but pledges of justice. In FY 2000, President Clinton won a six percent increase in funding for federal civil rights enforcement agencies including $82 million for the Civil Rights Division at the Justice Department, a 19 percent increase.
