of its beauty, its greatness and its power."

A little about Alpha Sigma Alpha:

History

Alpha Sigma Alpha was the first sorority to be founded in the 20th Century.
It began at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia on November 15, 1901.

Mission

"Alpha Sigma Alpha is a women's organization that exists to promote high ideals and standards for its members throughout their lives by emphasizing balance among the four aims of intellectual, physical, spiritual and social development. Alpha Sigma Alpha provides structure and guidance through:

Sisterhood , which is a strong bond of unconditional friendship based on common values and experiences;
Heritage , which is expressed through creed, ritual and history,
Opportunities for leadership and involvement in chapter, campus and community."

Creed

To fill my days with satisfying activity,
To find dominant beauty in art, literature, nature, and friendships,
To know the peace and serenity of a divine faith,
To love life and joyously live each day to its ultimate good -
This is my creed in Alpha Sigma Alpha.

Philanthropies

ASA supports the S. June Smith Center and helps to provide a brighter future for developmentally delayed toddlers. "Because of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation’s generosity, many children will receive specialized education, training, and therapy that is essential to their leading happy and productive lives!" - Patricia Shenk, S. June Smith Foundation Board of Directors.

The Special Olympics was officially adopted by Alpha Sigma Alpha as a national philanthropic project in 1976. Since then the Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation has supported the Special Olympics as they strive to empower individuals with mental retardation to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition.

Beta Nu is also very involved with the local Teeter for Tots Foundation. We continue to carry on the tradition of blessing under-privileged children with a Christmas that would not be possible without the sisterhood of this wonderful organization. Every year we invite approximately 40 children and their families to come and partake in our annual Christmas Celebration. At this event we have our "Man of the Year" come and serve as Santa, and we prepare a huge feast for dinner.
