Post-arrival Information
Bank Account:
During Orientation the International Students Organization will help in opening the Bank account. So opening a bank account and getting a debit card won't be a problem.
On campus job
If you don't have an Assistantship, it may be very important to get on campus job for most of the Indians who come here for studies.
On campus jobs will be offered in Winslow Dining Hall, Housing Department and in Curris Center. As soon as you come here to Murray, you can apply in the above said places and get a job.
SSN and driving license:
Social Security Number is must to work in United States of America. After you come to Murray, International Students Organization will guide you in getting a Social Security Number.
You will have to give a driving test to get a Driving License. So even if you bring your International Driving Permit it won't help you. It's better if you have your Indian Driving License before coming here in order to get a license easily.
Groceries
For Groceries, we have Wall-mart and Kroger, which are the best places to buy groceries. We have got lot of Indian Groceries Stores in Nashville (2 hours drive from Murray) like Apna Bazaar, Farmers Market where you can get all the Indian stuff you need for cooking and other things.
Indian Restaurants:
There are lots of Indian restaurants in Nashville (2 hours drive from Murray) like Sitar, Woodlands, Madras Bhavan.
We have one more Indian Restaurant in Clarksville (1 hour drive from Murray)
called Tandoor.
Telephone Connections:
As soon as you come to USA if you want to buy a phone, then you have to pay around $500 deposit since you won't be having a good credit history in USA.
After some months once you get your credit card and once you build your credit history then, no need to keep deposit and you can get connection for free. Monthly bills depend on the plans you take.
International Calls:
For calling to back home you can buy calling cards from Reliance or Airtel communications.

Living Off-campus:
Living off-campus is what most of the Indian Students prefer because it will be cost effective and you can have Indian roomies.
Monthly rent of a single bedroom apartment ranges anywhere from $250 to $ 350.
Monthly rent of a double bedroom apartment ranges anywhere from $300 to $ 450.
