Gamma Beta Phi Minutes
November 29, 2001

President:
Casey Johnson asked for December and May grads—they need to sign a sheet or let him know when they are graduating. He let members know that we are having officer nominations at this meeting and we will be electing officers next Thursday at the December 6 at 9:00. There will be no 5:00 meeting.

Wyatt Alverson made the following motion: “I move that the Gamma Beta Phi Bylaws be amended to include an official office of Web Master to gather pertinent information and to post that information to the Chapter Web page. In an effort to keep a balance of power during transitional times, the office of web master shall be to update and maintain the Gamma Beta Phi Chapter V Web page as frequently as necessary to insure that the accuracy of the information presented therein is correct.” This motion was passed.

Casey also let members know they can earn one point for reading minutes from the meeting by going to the Web site: http://campus.murraystate.edu/org/GBP/gamma_beta_phi.htm Minutes will be posted to this Web site approximately one week after the meeting takes place.

Vice-President:
Anne Harper stated that the trip scheduled to see Cats is cancelled due to the high rate for tickets of $65. However, she will probably be scheduling a trip to Opry Mills mall in Nashville most likely in early spring. She will be having an educational committee meeting December 4 at 4 p.m. in the Tree Lounge on the 3rd floor of the Curris Center. Any points a member earned for tutoring needs to turn them into her.

Corresponding Secretary:
Audrey Hamilton announced their would be a service committee meeting following both the 5:00 meeting and the 9:00 meeting tonight. One order of business to be addressed there is the hospital trip, which will be sometime in the spring. Members can be bringing any of the items from the list anytime either to the meetings or to Lori Dial’s office in Financial Aid in the basement of Sparks Hall for points. Also, Audrey reported that a date was set for the Boys and Girls of America Mini-Basketball Camp in Paducah for March 9. It will be from 10-2. December 6, Audrey will be having a trip to the nursing home to sing Christmas carols. Anyone wanting to go should meet at 5:15 at Sparks Hall parking lot or show up at Westview Nursing home at 5:30. Anyone that knows how to play the piano and interested should contact Audrey or just show up.

Jennifer Blalock and Erin Kilgore proposed that we sponsor a child for Christmas, and Shelly Harris said that she knew of a child at the Spouse Abuse Crisis Center in Paducah that could use our help for Christmas. She said that many of these children staying there at the shelter are overlooked by other charities and will most likely not get any kind of Christmas. Points can be earned for bringing a gift item for this child and should be turned in at the next meeting or to Lori Dial by Wednesday, December 12 in order to get the items to Paducah by the deadline. The following was provided by Shelly about the child we will sponsor:

Age: 2 years
Weight: 30 lbs.
Sex: Female
Dress, Shirt, Pant, & Coat Size: 4T
Underwear and Sock Size: Small
Special Toy: Black doll
Special Need: Talking Phone, Shoes, Clothes

If we would like to include a gift for the mother that
is ok. Also they ask if we could bring wrapping
paper, bows, tape, name tags, etc... if necessary.
The shelter needs the gifts on or by December 14th.

Toiletry items are also being accepted for this shelter. Jennifer Kilgore volunteered to take the items there. She will also take canned goods to donate to Martha’s Vineyard. Three canned goods equals one points and should also be brought by December 12th.

Recording Secretary:
