General Meeting Minutes
November 16, 2000
PRESIDENT:
President Wyatt Alverson asked all members once again to clean out
their email mailboxes because he keeps getting mass emails returned to him.
The next meeting will be on Thursday, December 7th at 9PM ONLY. This
meeting
will be to elect the offices of Historian, Recording Secretary, Public
Relations Chair and President.
Wyatt asked that all members who will be graduating in December to notify him
immediately so that they may receive a seal on their diploma.
VICE PRESIDENT:
Vice President Sharaf Alkibisi announced that there would be
an Education Committee meeting after both the 4:30 and 9:00 meetings to
discuss group tutoring sessions to be led by GBP members.
Sharaf passed along an appeal to GBP members from Student Support Services
(SSS) asking for tutors. These paid positions are open to juniors and
seniors
with a minimum 3.5 GPA. Tutors are needed in the following subjects: math,
science, English, world civilization and humanities.
TREASURER:
Treasurer Liz Fatheree reported on the bake sale GBP held at Tent
City during Homecoming. She stated that it went well.
Liz announced that GBP would be sponsoring a "Rebate Night" at Mr.
Gatti's on
Tuesday, November 28th from 5PM-9PM. If at least 25 people eat at Mr.
Gatti's
during that time period and state that they are eating for GBP, the
organization will receive 10% of the night's profits from the restaurant.
Liz also announced that t-shirts are still available for $10 in Lori Dial's
office.
RECORDING SECRETARY:
Recording Secretary Doug Cecil sent around a roster of
all members at the beginning of the meeting detailing their personal
information such as address, phone number, class standing, etc. He asked
members to correct any wrong information.
If the roster showed that dues were not paid, Doug asked that members see Liz
regarding any discrepancies.
Doug encouraged all members to keep earning points, as they are plenty of
opportunities still available.
CORRESPONDING SECRETARY:
Corresponding Secretary Cheri Riedel gave an update
of activities in preparation for the upcoming GBP community service event,
"Mom's Day Out." Flyers have been distributed to the Calloway
County
elementary schools, ads have been placed in both the Murray State News and the
Murray Ledger and Times, and ads have also been placed on the local high
school t.v. stations. The time and place of the event has been switched to
1PM-3PM in the T-Room of the Curris Center on the same day, Saturday, December
2nd. Please let Cheri know if you are interested in helping out with the
event.
Cheri also announced that she would like GBP members to make homemade
valentines for the residents of Westview Nursing Home as the community service
project for the month of February.
HISTORIAN:
Historian Alyson Holbrook did not make any announcements.
PUBLIC RELATIONS CHAIR:
Public Relations Chair Kent Bohanon gave more
information regarding the trip to Opry Mills Mall on Saturday, November 18th.
Members wishing to go should arrive in front of the Curris Center at 8:15AM
for the trip. He stated that departure time from Opry Mills would be
contingent upon the wishes of members in attendance as he realized some wanted
to be back in Murray in time for the Grease performance. Kent stated that
drivers were needed to drive the MSU vans to the mall. A MSU driver's
license
is necessary for this task and anyone interested in pursuing one for this
purpose should see him after the meeting. Members must be over 21 to be
eligible.
Kent also announced that in cooperation with the Rebate Night at Mr. Gatti's,
a social event would be held. Any member in attendance would receive a
point
and any member who brings a friend would receive an additional point.
Members
interested in this opportunity should arrive at 6PM and sign the sign-up
sheet.
A movie night is also in the works. Kent advised members to watch for
announcements about this social event to be held most probably two weeks after
Thanksgiving Break.
President Wyatt Alverson assumed control of the meeting to oversee officer
nominations. Officer nominations for elections to be held at the December
7th
meeting are as follows:

Wyatt stated that the ballot would be open to nominations until December 5th.

Advisor Lori Dial reminded members to bring in items for the Murray Family
Resource Center. If members would like to know what items are needed,
please
contact Corresponding Secretary Cheri Riedel.
Michelle Perkinson announced that a performance of Pirates of Penzance would
be held later that evening at Robert Johnson Theater.
