Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society
General Meeting Minutes
September 28, 2000

PRESIDENT:

President Wyatt Alverson stated that the date for induction of new
members had been changed to October 17 due to a conflict with the Three Doors
Down concert.  All members wishing to help in order to earn points should show up at the
Curris Center Ballroom at approximately 6:30PM.  The program will begin at
approximately 8:00PM.  Please dress in business attire.

The Math Club is having a party at Dr. McCarthy's house on September 29.  All
math majors, minors and students currently taking a math class are invited.
The theme is the 80s.  For directions, contact the math department.

Homecoming Queen nominations are due on October 2.  Prior to the meetings,
Wyatt solicited nominations from members through email.  The nominees were
Ashley Hailston and Stephanie Warford.  Member Scott Pile spoke on behalf of
Ashley Hailston at the 4:30 meeting and Wyatt read aloud the resume of
Stephanie Warford who was later present at the 9:00 meeting.  Voting took
place at both meetings and Stephanie Warford is GBP's nominee for Homecoming
Queen.

T-shirts are on sale for $10.00 in Lori Dial's office at the financial aid
office in Sparks Hall.

For any member interested in changing their voter registration, cards have
been sent to GBP for members to fill out.  Registration is due October 9 at
the County Clerk's office.

The National GBP Convention is this weekend, September 29-October 1 in New
Orleans, LA.  Approximately seven members from our chapter are participating.

Wyatt asked that those members graduating in either December 2000 or May 2001
to let him know so that they may receive a seal on their diploma.

GBP's next meeting will be October 26.

VICE PRESIDENT:

Vice President Sharaf Alkibisi announced he would be having
two educational committee lunch meetings at the T-Room in the Curris Center.
These will take place on Tuesday, October 3 and Wednesday, October 4 at
12:30PM.  Semester plans for group tutoring will be discussed.  Members in
attendance will receive one point.

TREASURER:

Treasurer Elizabeth Fatheree reminded all members that their dues
are now due.  Money for dues will still be accepted from now through induction
of new members (October 17).  Dues are $15.00.  Please by Lori Dial if you
want to pay before induction.

MSU Homecoming is October 28.  This year, GBP will be selling hot dogs and
baked goods.  Elizabeth is trying to get the hot dogs and hot dog buns donated
by local businesses.  The baked goods will come from
members.  Cookies, brownies or any other baked
item can be donated for points.  This will hopefully be a successful
fund-raiser.  After each meeting, Elizabeth had a sign-up sheet for those
interested.

RECORDING SECRETARY:

Recording Secretary Doug Cecil asked that all members
please fill out a biographical information sheet for his records if they have
not done so yet.  This sheet includes such information as name, address, phone
number, email address and number of semesters in GBP.

If you would like to keep track of your point totals for the semester, the
webpage will be updated often as possible.

CORRESPONDING SECRETARY:

Corresponding Secretary Cheri Riedel extended thanks
and congratulations to GBP from the Red Cross.  The blood drive held by the
Red Cross and co-sponsored by GBP in September was one of the most successful
ever in Calloway County.  If you helped out with the blood drive in any way,
please let Doug know so that you can be credited with points.

GBP will be making a special visit to Hickory Woods Retirement Center on
Tuesday, October 10.  We will be serving the residents dinner.  Later, we will
play some games with the residents and if anyone is interested, have a
sing-along with them.  Any interested members are asked to contact Cheri or
show up at Hickory Woods at 4:45 on October 10 in their GBP T-shirt and
khakis.  This activity should last approximately an hour and a half to two
hours.

Cheri also mentioned that she would like GBP to sponsor a "Mom's Day Out"
closer to Christmas time.  Mom's Day Out will give members of MSU faculty who
are mothers (and fathers) a chance to go Christmas shopping without the worry
of their children.  This event would probably be on a Saturday morning in
early December and held in the Curris Center. It would last from 8AM to 12PM
and would entail children's videos, games, coloring books, storytime and maybe
even a visit from Santa Claus!  We may or may not charge a fee for this.  Many
volunteers would be necessary for this to be successful.  Please let Cheri
know if you are interested.

HISTORIAN:

Historian Alyson Holbrook did not have any announcements.

PUBLIC RELATIONS CHAIR:

Public Relations Chair Kent Bohanon announced that
GBP's picture for the Murray State yearbook, The Shield, will be taken in the
art galleria on the first floor of the Curris Center on Tuesday, October 3rd
at 9PM.  Directly afterwards, there will be a social gathering for GBP members
at Boulders coffee house.  Attendance at Boulders can earn members one point.

A motion was made by Cheri Riedel and passed by the members present at the
4:30PM meeting to donate $50.00 to the Murray Family Resource Center.  This
money will be used to help disadvantaged local students gain admission to high
school football and basketball games.
