Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society
General Meeting Minutes
August 31, 2000

PRESIDENT:

President Wyatt Alverson asked that those graduating in either
December 2000 or May 2001 to let him know so that they may receive a seal on
their diploma.

The GBP National Convention will be held this year in New Orleans, LA.  The
dates for the convention are September 29 through October 1, which also
happens to be Family Weekend here at MSU.  The theme for this year's
convention is "Architects for the Future, Leadership for the New Millenium."
All GBP members are invited to attend.  Hotel fees at the Hotel Monteleone are
being paid for by the Chapter which leaves only transportation, food and
souvenir, etc. expenses to participating members from the Chapter.  Some
members are planning on making the trip by car, others by plane.  If you are
interested in attending, Wyatt must know NOW because the reservation date for
rooms at the hotel has already passed.

Induction of new members will be on October 10, 2000 at approximately 8PM in
the Curris Center small ballroom.  Current members will have the opportunity
to receive points for helping in set-up, take-down, etc.  All current members
will receive another invitation to join but please disregard it.

MSU's Homecoming is set for October 28, 2000.  In the past, GBP has had a tent
to sell drinks and ice cream.  Since Homecoming is so late this year, it was
suggested that we might sell hot chocolate or hot dogs, in anticipation of
cooler weather.

As a result of new rules by the publisher, GBP meeting dates are not published
in this year's student planner.  Next month's meeting will be on September 29,
2000.  Please refer to the online calendar on our website
http://campus.murraystate.edu/org/GBP/gamma_beta_phi.htm

VICE PRESIDENT:

Vice President Sharaf Alkibsi welcomed all members back from
summer vacation.  Sharaf mentioned he would be calling an Education Committee
meeting after the 9PM meeting to organize group tutoring sessions.  He
suggested these sessions take place either in the Curris Center or the
Learning Center.  Members would have the opportunity to receive points for
their participation.

Sharaf also encouraged all members to keep participating in the "Online
Society" contacted through our website.  Members can receive up to 3 points in
socializing with foreign students and helping them refine their conversational
English.  Sharaf asked that participating members please keep track of the
frame number and to remember to log on and log off.

TREASURER:

Treasurer Elizabeth Fatheree announced that everyone's dues of $15
are due at the next meeting, September 29, 2000.  T-shirts and pins are still
available and for sale in Lori Dial's office.  The only size left of t-shirt,
however, is large.  The purchase of either of these items is eligible for
point earning.  Elizabeth also held a Fundraising Committee meeting after both
meetings.  She asked that anyone with ideas for a fundraiser to please let her
know.

RECORDING SECRETARY:

Recording Secretary Doug Cecil reminded members that
they can keep track of their point totals throughout the semester by logging
on to our website.  Doug encouraged all members to get involved this semester.

CORRESPONDING SECRETARY:  Corresponding Secretary Cheri Riedel handed out a
flyer enumerating many different service point opportunities for the semester.
Cheri also announced that GBP is co-sponsoring the American Red Cross Blood
Drive with Sigma Pi Fraternity.  The blood drive is Tuesday, September 12
through Wednesday, September 13, 2000 in the Curris Center from 10AM-3PM each
day.  Volunteers are need for donor check-in throughout the day, flyer posting
on campus, and most importantly for helping the Red Cross pack-up at 3PM on
9/13.  Cheri encouraged all members to GIVE BLOOD on one of those days even if
you cannot volunteer any time.  Points will be given for volunteering of time
and for donating blood.  If you can help with any of these duties, please
contact Cheri at 762-4703.  Please pick-up a community service project
hand-out after reading the minutes.  Cheri asked that anyone with ideas for
other community service projects to please let her know.

HISTORIAN:

Historian Alyson Holbrook asked that anyone with newsclippings of
GBP members to please give them to her for the scrapbook.  Alyson also asked
that everyone keep an eye out for pictures and/or articles about members in
their hometown newspapers as well as Murray newspapers.  Alyson noted that
anyone interested in helping her with this year's scrapbook should please let
her know.

PUBLIC RELATIONS CHAIR:

Public Relations Chair Kent Bohanon announced that
there would be an ice cream social after both the 4:30PM and 9PM meetings for
members.  Kent asked that all members fill out his questionnaire on GBP
activities.  Kent mentioned possibly hosting a formal dance in conjunction
with a Fraternity or Sorority, a trip to Opry Mills Mall or a group dinner.
Anyone with more suggestions for social events were asked to let Kent know.

Advisor Lori Dial encouraged all members to get involved this semester and to
especially help Corresponding Secretary, Cheri Riedel with the blood drive.

Member-at-large Jennifer Hibbs encouraged all GBP members to participate in
activities on campus this semester.  She suggested members attend the Dave
Ramsey lecture on managing personal finances in Lovett Auditorium at 7PM on
September 14, 2000.  She said admission would be $2 for students.
