General Meeting Minutes
August 30, 2001

President:
Casey Johnson talked about National Convention. He said it would be September 28-30 in San Antonio, TX at Adam’s Mark Hotel. He said the rooms would be paid for, but the travel would be paid for according to attendance and cushioned by fundraisers. Those going would leave the 28th and return the 30th. Sign up if you’re interested so he can reserve rooms and get cheaper rates. Members interested in being on the national convention committee can sign up with Casey and Larissa.

He explained that convention would be October 29th or October 24th at 7:00 p.m. in the Curris Center. The time has not been set yet, and we still need to find a speaker.

Those interested in being on the induction committee can earn points and fulfill committee requirements. They can help with setup and the ceremony. The setup will be the same as in the past. He will have a suggestion box available for anyone with suggestions. He asked people whose e-mail accounts had failed to see him after the meeting.

Vice President:
Anne Harper encouraged members to sign up for her first educational committee meeting, which will be held Monday, September 20th. She is planning to have some events to see plays this fall and possibly trips to science and history museums. Members can earn points by attending. They can also earn points by reading the minutes from the online society.

Recording Secretary:
Amanda Gerrish passed around the sign-up sheet and asked members that wore shirts to mark it down also to get points. She encouraged attending meetings, events, and participating in committees to gain points. She said that if you don’t fulfill your points for a semester, you have one semester to get your grades up. You can e-mail her points for credit. Don’t forget you need 15 per semester.

Corresponding Secretary:
Talked about projects for this year. She is planning to have traditional ones as well as some new things. We are still planning to make at least one trip to the hospital, but she is going to check into having a sports camp for the Boys and Girls United in Paducah and possibly have members be able to work some concerts like Lifehouse and KCi and JoJo for points. She also plans to check with the Murray Animal Shelter to plan a trip to walk dogs and play with the animals on a Saturday. She asked members to sign up for her service committee meeting September 6th at 5:00 in the study area on the 3rd floor of the Curris Center.

Treasurer:
Larissa Cook said she is going to have several fundraisers to raise money for convention. There will be a car wash on September 15 from 12p.m. to 4p.m. at the Pizza Hut parking lot. Those who help will earn points. Also there will be four Gatti’s nights this semester. They are September 12, October 10, November 7, and December 5 from 5 to 9p.m. She reminded members that there must be 25 people or more to come in order to make a profit and that extra points are awarded for bringing friends. She is planning to have bake sales throughout the semester in Faculty Hall. She will talk more in detail about these fundraisers at her Fundraiser Committee Meeting September 5 at 4:30p.m. on the third floor of the Curris Center. There are also T-shirts available for sale if anyone needs one.
