Gamma Beta Phi Minutes
February 28, 2002
President:
Wyatt Alverson thanked everyone who attended regional convention the
previous weekend in Nashville. Congratulations to Alison Marr and the Scrapbook
Committee for doing a great job on GBP’s award-winning scrapbook. It will
compete next at nationals in April where it will be judged along with the
1999-2000 scrapbook from the previous Regional Convention. In addition to
winning the scrapbook convention, our chapter also received the Distinguished
Chapter Award. The next regional convention will be in late September or early
October on the campus of Middle Tennessee State. The National Convention will be
April 19-21 in San Antonio, TX. Wyatt asked that anyone interested in going
please contact him A.S.A.P. to get arrangements under way. His phone number is
767-9473.
At the previous meeting, Wyatt pointed out a discrepancy with the bi-laws that
the officers had realized. According to the bi-laws, president, treasurer, and
public relations officers are to be elected in the fall, and vice resident,
corresponding secretary, recording secretary, historian, and Webmaster offices
should be elected in the spring. However, a motion was made by Vice-President
Anne Harper that president, recording secretary, public relations, and historian
offices be elected in the fall, and that vice president, corresponding
secretary, treasurer, and webmaster offices be elected in the spring.
This motion was recorded in the minutes and posted on the GBP Web page and also
in the next flier. The motion was voted on and passed unanimously in both the
5:00 and the 9:00 meetings.
Vice President:
Anne Harper announced her St. Louis trip to take place on April 13th. She plans
to have a picnic and visit the zoo, the Science Center, Art, and History Museums
(these museums are optional). The group will leave that morning from Sparks Hall
parking lot around 8 a.m. Anne also scheduled her committee meeting for Monday,
March 4th at 5:30 in the Jungle Lounge on the 3rd floor of the Curris Center.
Recording Secretary:
Shelly Harris thanked everyone for their help at the Body Fair. She asked
members to contact her if anything is needed.
Treasurer:
Larissa Cook thanked all members who came to Mr. Gatti’s last Wednesday. She
said it was a great success. She asked for help and baked goods for her next
fundraiser, which will be March 1st. She asked those who could help to notify
her after the meeting, or anyone bringing baked goods can bring those to Faculty
Hall.
Corresponding
Secretary:
Audrey Hamilton announced March 9th as the date for Long-term Care bingo. She
asked anyone who could help to sign up or e-mail her or come to Sparks Hall
parking lot at 10:45 for those needing a ride. Those not needing a ride can show
up at the hospital at 11 a.m. to help out. Items on the list can be brought to
Lori Dial’s office through March 7th for points. She announced March 28 there
will be an Easter Party at the Child Development Center conducted by Gamma Beta
Phi. Those interested in helping should contact her through e-mail. Audrey said
she was unsure but is looking at April 6th as a tentative date for the
mini-basketball camp for the Boys’ and Girls’ Club in Paducah. She said she may
possibly schedule a trip to the animal shelter for later April or early May.
Public Relations:
Brian Coe is having a bowling event at Corvette Lanes March 13 at 7:30. He also
said he would be having a movie night at Cheri theatre April 17 around 7:30.
Those interested should contact him. Brian thinks formal will probably be pushed
back into April. April 27th he is having an Opry Mills trip. For anyone
interested, there will be an international buffet April 7th—cost is $10.
Historian:
Amber Wray asked anyone wanting to be involved with the Scrapbook Committee to
contact her.
