Gamma Beta Phi Minutes
January 31, 2002

President:
Wyatt Alverson asked that all members who might still have the pre-existing GBP member e-mail list please delete that due to repeated occurrences of spam mail being sent to members. He then gave instructions for GBP members to follow if they want to be included in e-mails from now on. He announced that regional convention would be February 23 at Vanderbilt in Nashville—an internship/career fair will be held at the same time. This trip is worth 3 points. He told members that certificates were in for new members. These members should wait after to receive certificates. He advised students graduating in May to make sure they are on the list in order that their seals can be ordered for graduation. Wyatt pointed out a discrepancy with the bi-laws that the officers had realized. According to the bi-laws, president, treasurer, and public relations officers are to be elected in the fall, and vice resident, corresponding secretary, recording secretary, historian, and webmaster offices should be elected in the spring. However, a motion was made by Vice-President Anne Harper that president, recording secretary, public relations, and historian offices be elected in the fall, and that vice president, corresponding secretary, treasurer, and webmaster offices be elected in the spring. This motion should be put in writing on the GBP web page and also in the next flier, and it will be voted on at the next meeting (February 28).

Vice President:
Anne Harper discussed points for tutoring. She said one point will be awarded per half an hour, with no maximum, but this is only for non-paid tutoring. However, it does not have to be organized tutoring through GBP, but it can be. This will be discussed at her next committee meeting which will be Monday, February eleventh in the Tree Lounge in the Curris Center. She is planning a trip to St. Louis in the Spring. It will be April 13—members should meet around 8 a.m. at Sparks Hall. She is working on getting transportation provided for this and encourages members to sign up if they could drive a bus or van or something (if they are qualified to do that.) She is planning a visit to the zoo, history, science, and art museums, and it should all be free except for money to eat on. Sack lunches can also be taken. She is also thinking of planning to go to the Budweiser plant that day; this was proposed by a member. She also reiterated for members to please delete the previous GBP e-mail list and to stop sending spam mail to members and officers.

Recording Secretary:
Shelly Harris asked everyone to sign the sign-up sheet to get points for being present and for wearing shirts. She discussed the Love Your Body Fair February 28th. GBP will have a booth there, and members should sign-up to work for points (1 pt per hour). Stress balls will be made for this even on February 19 at 8 p.m. in the Curris Center 3rd Floor Tree Lounge. She also said points would be awarded for bringing fabric for quilt squares (1 yard), flour, and balloons for the stress ball. All of those materials need to be turned in by February 18.

Historian:
Amber Wray asked members to e-mail her to let her know their schedules if they are interested in having a meeting to plan a theme and work on the scrapbook.

Corresponding Secretary:
Audrey Hamilton reminded everyone that there will be a mini-sports camp for the Boys and Girls United March 9 in Paducah. She said she would be having a short service committee meeting afterwards to organize this and plan to make some posters to advertise. She said there will be a trip to the hospital long-term care to play bingo sometime in the spring. Members should bring items for points to the meetings or to Lori Dial’s office in the basement in Sparks Hall. She will also be planning another trip to the animal shelter sometime during the semester.

Treasurer:
Larissa Cook is having a fundraising committee meeting February 6th at 4:30 p.m. on the 3rd floor of the Curris Center. The first Gatti’s night will be February 20th, not the 27th (the GBPhlier had this listed incorrectly) from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Bring friends and yourself and say your with GBP to earn points. Two days later, March 1st is the first bake sale. It will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Faculty Hall. The next meeting is the night before the bake sale; so, members can bring baked goods (for points!) to the meeting or drop them off at Lori Dial’s office on the bottom floor of Sparks Hall. People are also needed to work the table and will earn points for this. Larissa asked people interested in working to e-mail her when they can work.

Public Relations:
Brian Coe is having the first social event February 7th. It will be a racer’s basketball game. Members should meet at the student entrance at 6:30 (if they want to watch half of the girls’ game) or show up anytime. He announced his social committee meeting will be February 12th at 4:30 in the tree lounge. He is also planning a trip to Opry Mills mall on a Saturday and Gamma Beta Phi Formal, which may either be in the Women’s Center or the country club. There is no date for that yet.

SGA Representative:
Stephanie Warford announced some upcoming events SGA is planning. March 25th at 8 Nelly will be in concert at the RSEC. Tickets will go on sale February 8th, or they can be purchases February 7th at the racers’ game at half time. Festival seating (on the floor) will be available for those wanting to stand and move around. SGA’s program “Unpack the Suitcase” features Scribes and Vibes February 8th at 7 p.m. at Sunset Strips in the Curris Center. SGA hosts a blood drive February 6th and 7th in the dance lounge. The Sunday before Valentine’s day there will be decorations in the Curris Center. Also, Monday the 11th Lethal Weapon will be shown at 6, the 12th The Color Purple at 6 (featuring Dannie Glover), and the 13th the movie Pure Luck will be shown at 6. He will be at MSU February 14 (Valentine’s Day) at 8 o’clock. The “Love Calculator” will be at MSU as well on Valentine’s Day. April 26th is REBOS, a music festival, at the fairgrounds. Stephanie encouraged any students with any issues to call her at 753-1928.
