Murray State Mandatory Email Password Change FAQ

Exactly what is going to happen to our email accounts?

All university email accounts - students, faculty, staff, guests and departments must have the password changed between May 2 at 8:00 am and May 23 at 6:00 pm. This means that your password on May 23 must be different from your password on May 2. Listservs are not affected.

I'm not receiving my mail since I changed my password.

CAUTION! On the Settings page in Webmail, there are optional fields for forwarding your mail to a different email address. If the checkbox circled below is selected (a checkmark appears in the box) and there is no forwarding address in the "Forward mail to" textbox, all incoming messages will not be delivered. Any incoming messages sent to you while this box is selected cannot be retrieved.

Leave the Forwarding Email checkbox blank if you have not specified an email address to forward messages to.

If you do not want to forward your messages to another account MAKE SURE that the checkbox is not selected.

I changed my password before May 2. Do I have to change it again?

Yes - all university passwords for faculty, staff, students, guest and departmental accounts must be changed by their owner between May 2 and May 23, 2005. This includes users who changed their passwords before May 2. Users will need to select a different new password (i.e. something different than the password that was in place May 2).

When is the deadline for changing my password?

May 23rd, 6:00 p.m.

How do I change my password?

I have my murraystate.edu email forwarded to another email account. Must I still change my password?

Your mail will continue to be forwarded regardless of the password on your account. However we strongly recommend that all users follow this procedure to know and manage their own email password.

Will this affect departmental email accounts?

Yes. This change affects ALL murraystate.edu email accounts. It does not affect listservs.

How does this affect my Blackboard, Network, Computer, or PIN account?

This change ONLY affects your email password. Access to all other university systems will stay the same.
