On December 29, Information Systems upgraded the Murray State email system.
Mail was copied from the old system to the new system. No mail should have been lost during this process.
Defaults for new mailbox sizes have increased from 1.5 MB to 5 MB.
All user passwords were reset to the last 4 digits of the Social Security Number (SS#). We recommend that you change your password immediately.
Users of Eudora, Outlook or similar mail programs should notice no change with the exception of their passwords being reset (see above).
Owners of Departmental accounts should contact modus@murraystate.edu for their new passwords.
Many account management tasks can now be performed via the new Webmail. This means that users can log into Webmail, set their preferences, then use their primary mail program.
Some examples of account management features available via Webmail include:
If you have trouble creating a new email message in Webmail, check to see if you have a pop-up blocker installed on your computer. Users of Webmail will need to disable pop-up blockers to be able to access all features of the new Webmail system (including composing new messages).
If you are not able to create, forward, or reply to a message, that is a good indication that a pop-up blocker is installed on your machine. You may trying holding down the [Ctrl] key or the [Shift] key while clicking on the link. Many commercial pop-up blockers use these commands to open a blocked window.
For instructions on disabling pop-up blockers, refer to your pop-up blocker manufacturer's information. You may also find links to information for your browser or pop-up blocker program on the Email FAQ.
By default, Webmail does not provide a name in the From: line for email messages that you send, so it is important that you make this change. If you do not specify that your name should appear, your recipients will not see any name in the From line, and they may delete the message without opening it.
To specify that your name should appear in the From Line:
See the Webmail User Guide or the Email FAQ Page for assistance using the new Webmail.
