Daylight Savings Time (DST) 2007 Updates:
How Will the New Time Affect Me?
Due to the U.S. Energy Policy Act of 2005, United States Daylight Savings
Time
(DST) now begins three weeks earlier (on March 11, 2007) and ends one week later (on November 4, 2007). Thus, the new DST period is approximately four weeks longer than previously observed.
This change will affect ALL computer operating systems. Without the proper time setting updates, computer systems could see performance issues such as:
- Incorrect meeting times in calendaring software
- Problems with Java applications
- Problems with other time-dependent applications
- Incorrect time in system logs
- Other time-related issue

We anticipate that Microsoft Outlook users will experience the most trouble with the change. You should consider all calendar items within the new DST period as suspect. If you are not sure, verify the correct time with the organizer or the original source of the calendar item. If you are sharing a calendar, be sure to verify the accuracy of the calendar items on each client.
Information Systems does NOT recommend using the Outlook tool from Microsoft, as we have not found it to be very useful.
Before Sunday, we suggest that you print out your meetings for those 3 weeks and call the Help Desk at 809-2346.
