MSU Health Services
The mission of Health Services is primarily to promote the health and wellness of students while they are on campus and to provide them with information so that they can optimize their lifetime wellness. Through our programs outside of the clinic and information provided in the clinic, we strive to fulfill our mission.
The Coalition for Alcohol Risk Education (CARE) is made up of students, faculty, staff, parents, community members and the Regional Prevention Center. CARE was founded in 1999 with the mission to heighten awareness of risks associated with alcohol use and to provide a positive low-risk environment for the Murray State community.
For more information on CARE and how you can become a part of this coalition, please contact Judy Lyle at 270-809-3809 . There are also links to information on alcohol and other substance use and abuse that may be different from the links found on this page.
Health Line is a telephone information service for students, faculty and staff. Professional Nurses will answer health questions, discuss appointments or offer assitance with referrals. Access to Health Line is at 809-3809. (See Hours of Operation.)
In the past, we have been asked to speak to groups (RA programs, Greeks, etc.) on a variety of health issues. To schedule a program, please call 2 - 3 weeks in advance. This will allow us to prepare for the program of your choice.
You may choose to do your own program. We have a wealth of information and materials to assist you in program presentation.
We have books, videos, interactive software and pamphlets available for your use. Books, software and videos are primarily for in-house use, but may be loaned short-term. If we don't have what you need, we may be able to direct you to an agency who may be able to help you. We encourage you to come in and see what we have available.
The Risk Appraisal is a personal screening designed to highlight any potential or real wellness concerns that you might have. The screening also highlights those things that are healthy in your life. Some of the wellness concerns you may want to address while you are a student in order to become a more well person.
We would like to encourage the users of the Risk Appraisal to complete the assessment and then call Health Services to schedule an appointment with one of the professional nurses. The appointment will last approximately 15 - 30 minutes. We will go over your assessment with you and will give you information on some of the areas in which you have concerns. If necessary, we can schedule additional appointments or a referral to another health care provider for in-depth problem areas.
