Welcome to CTLT’s 10th Annual Teaching and Technology Forum
The beginning of a new academic year is a good time to think of the challenges we all face in preparing today's students to succeed in a constantly changing, ever more complex world. As we attempt to find ways to connect with our changing students, we invite you to participate in a series of discussions addressing questions that we are all grappling with:
- What is a learning space? The library at Alexandria? Newton sitting under an apple tree? The traditional lecture hall? The student residence hall? The high-tech, gee whiz, smart classroom? The virtual worlds of the internet and the gamers?
- How does the widespread availability of the internet and online social activity influence learning, and can it be used to promote student success?
- How can we stimulate engagement and motivation of today's students? What can instructors do to improve retention of subject matter and improve the application of new knowledge?
- How can we use our existing facilities and equipment to teach students coming from their world of iPods, cell phones, and text messaging?
- What is the relationship between a teaching space and a learning space? How would we define these spaces? What difference does it make to learning?
The Forum is sponsored by The Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology, the Office of the Provost at Murray State University, and Gateway. In an attempt to widen the participation in what has become a very popular and well attended event for the past 10 years, we are extending the invitation to area institutions of higher education and K-12 administrators. The Forum consists of faculty-led roundtable discussions, a workshop, and a keynote address and dinner on Thursday evening. We are pleased to welcome Dr. Todd Zakrajsek, a national expert on student motivation and learning spaces, as keynote speaker for this year's Forum.
