The Artisanship of Teaching: Polishing the Tools of the Profession

Welcome to CTLT’s 9th Annual Teaching and Technology Forum

This year we explore the Teaching Profession itself with an eye toward the ongoing challenges that faculty face in improving instruction. It has never been more clear that effective student learning requires faculty who not only have extensive content knowledge, but who also have the ability to shape learning experiences. Shaping those experiences requires knowledge of teaching strategies as well as awareness of which tools can best support learning. Changes in the technologies and changes in our students have complicated the process of honing the teaching craft. Technologies that were recently considered experimental are emerging as important educational tools. Student demographics, technology expectations and attitudes toward issues such as plagiarism place unprecedented pressure on faculty development activities. In this year’s Forum we will explore the complicated craft of teaching. We’ll look at technologies in the classroom, explore critical thinking, and hear from some of Murray’s best as the Regents Teaching Award winners discuss their approaches to teaching.

This year, Murray State faculty will lead student informational sessions on Plagiarism during the Forum. The sessions will be 45 minutes long and will begin at the same time as each scheduled Forum session. They will be held in The Curris Center Theatre. We will track attendance at the Plagiarism series. Send your class to the Plagiarism session while you attend the Forum!
