In this session moderated by Ricky Cox, faculty will discuss efforts that they have made to increase student interaction and the results they have encountered. We will use selections from the PBS special "Declining by Degrees" to provoke discussion. |

Connecting Outside the Classroom: Multiple Opportunities for Faculty-Student Interaction Moderated by Ricky Cox (Chemistry, Teaching-Scholar in Residence at CTLT) Research indicates that student interaction with university faculty can have a significant and lasting impact on students. In this session we will discuss ways of maximizing student/faculty contact through the various roles that faculty play in a student's education. We'll be discussing service learning, undergraduate research, mentoring, residential college relationships, and international experiences. |

Students Speak! One of the issues raised by the PBS documentary "Declining by Degrees" is that many students just drift through college without exerting much effort. A possibly related phenomenon is that student grades have steadily risen over the recent past. Our student panel will provide a student perspective on these issues and more. |
