MSU Campus Community Computer Maintenance Guide

LESSON ONE - Update McAfee Antivirus Software (Daily)

In this lesson you will learn how to daily update your McAfee antivirus software manually, or schedule your software to update automatically. Updating your McAfee antivirus software is necessary to counteract viruses, worms, and other types of malicious codes. Updating your software is important due to the speed at which viruses can spread.

This lesson has been developed specifically for the use of McAfee, with which the university has a license agreement. McAfee has been purchased for faculty, staff, and students living in the residential halls at Murray State University.

Note:
The sample screens are from Windows XP; consequently, the screens may slightly vary depending on the operating system you are using.

To schedule your McAfee antivirus software to update automatically, do the following:

1. Click Start on the bottom left of your computer screen
2. Select All Programs in Windows XP (or Programs in Windows 2000)
3. Go to Network Associates
4. Select VirusScan Console

From Start, select (All) Programs, Network Associates, then VirusScan Console
