MSU Campus Community Computer Maintenance Guide
LESSON FOUR - About Windows Update (weekly)

In this lesson you will learn how to update windows on a weekly basis. Microsoft provides updates for
the Windows operating system software; such updates help to protect your system from security threats.

You will learn how to Express Install updates for Windows; Microsoft recommends Express Install because it is the fastest way to install high priority updates, and it allows you to update all at once with a single click. The Custom Install is not recommended, since you must select the updates you wish to install one by one.

You will also learn how to set your computer to update automatically using the Automatic Updates feature. With this feature, your computer can receive high priority updates when they become available.

Note: You can update Windows via Start on your computer, or via Internet Explorer.
(Your computer must have Internet Explorer 5 or a later version to access Windows Updates via the internet).

For information, questions, and general troublshooting, visit the Microsoft web site, select Windows Updates, and then select Frequently Asked Questions from the left menu.
