Enrollment

  • Enrollment in the Blackboard system does not signify official enrollment at Murray State University.
  • Students will be enrolled in Blackboard based on student’s schedules approximately one week before the first day of classes.
  • Students will still be responsible for academic holds and financial obligations and may be taken out of Blackboard at the Registrars’ or Bursars’ offices discretion. Once obligations have been fulfilled, the student will be re-enrolled in Blackboard.
  • Students should check their myGate for class schedules, holds, and account balances before calling the Blackboard office if they do not see their courses in Blackboard.
  • Student passwords are randomly generated and must be set using the Forgot Your Password link on the login page (Option 1 recommended).

 

Administrative Policies/Procedures

  • Courses are created when requested by faculty or staff. Courses cannot be requested by students.
  • Instructors are responsible for copying content semester to semester and for exporting/importing content as well as course gradebooks.
  • Students are enrolled based on their schedules into courses beginning one week before the semester begins and daily thereafter.
  • Blackboard administrators reserve the right to access courses for troubleshooting purposes.
  • Development courses may be requested but are limited to use for 6 months.
  • Courses for user groups, such as organizations, residential colleges, or committees can be requested and kept on the system but require an updated roster submitted each year.
  • Academic courses will be kept on the system until the end of the following semester.
  • Beginning March 2009, new student usernames (email and Blackboard) will be in a new format. Usernames for current students will not change.

  • Blackboard usernames must follow the same format as the MSU email username and cannot be changed once it has been established in the banner student system.
