Rural Community
Health Scholars
The Purchase AHEC provides a
creative way for students who have an interest health professions to explore
rural health through this summer program. Shadowing health professionals,
tours of rural hospitals, visits to Kentucky medical schools, and exploration
in to the rural health experience in our communities are just a few of
the opportunities made available to accepted applicants. The one month
program helps students obtain first-hand experience in health professions,
which can strengthen their applications to further their education.

MCAT Preparation
The Purchase AHEC
offers a Medical College Admissions Test Review program for junior pre-med
students who will be taking the MCAT in the spring. The program begins
in January and runs for 12 consecutive Saturdays. The program consists
of reviews in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics
and Verbal Reasoning, in addition to taking full practice tests.

DAT Preparation
The Purchase
AHEC purchases CD-ROMS from Top-Score Pro© for Dental Admissions
Test preparation and provides them at no charge to students preparing
to take the test in the spring.

Mock Interviews
Health professions
students who have been selected to interview prior to admisssions into
a health related program may contact the Purchase AHEC to schedule a mock
interview. Students are encouraged to dress as they will for the interview
and time is allotted for two interviews with staff to help prepare for
the experience. Students will leave with a critique of their performance
and tips on how to successfully present themselves to the admissions committee.
