ONE-Tablet Instructional Models

At Murray State University, faculty members are investigating a number of tablet PC-based instructional models.  One of the most important models involves the integration of a single Tablet PC into a course.  This ONE-tablet model has been developed such that ONE tablet PC can be used effectively in a variety of teaching and learning environments.  The pen-based technology associated with the tablet PC makes it a powerful instructional tool that can be used to transform teaching and enhance student learning.

Many educators are investigating the value of a multi-tablet PC approach where the instructor and every student in the class have a tablet PC (1: 1 computing).   Like many colleges and universities, Murray State does not mandate students to own a computer or tablet PC system.  Therefore, it is imperative that instructional models be developed that involve only ONE tablet PC that can take advantage of mobile and pen-based technologies.  We are grateful to Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard for higher education tablet PC grants to investigate the educational value of the ONE-tablet approach.
