My Thoughts On Teaching

Teaching is a great responsibility and a chance to make a positive difference in the lives of students.

Learning, while hard work, should be an enjoyable, positive and even fun experience.  Marketing courses need to have practical relevance for the student and provide the student with the opportunity to apply what they have learned to the real business world.

I believe that nothing compares to the learning environment created by student-professor interaction.  Early in the semester, I make it clear in my Consumer Behavior class that I am truly interested in the student's opinions and thoughts on their shopping experiences with area retailers.

I firmly believe that every student has something to contribute and that their views have the potential to enhance the learning environment.

Finally, I encourage professionalism.  I come to class fully prepared and with a great deal of enthusiasm.  This means prompt return of exams and assignments.  Moreover, I maintain liberal office hours, encourage students to visit, and treat each student with respect and dignity.

We, as teachers, are not only responsible for imparting knowledge, and facilitating the learning environment but we also have a responsibility to help students improve their own lives.
