ENG 302—Major American Authors
A survey of the fiction, poetry, drama, and essays
written by America's most important writers from
the nation's beginnings to the mid-twentieth century.
ENG 319—Gay and Lesbian Literature
A study of literary works by gay and lesbian authors
as well as works about the gay and lesbian experience
spanning the long and varied history of the genre.

ENG 407—Short Fiction
A study of the origin and development of the short story, the short-short story, and/or the novella as
unique literary genres. Special emphasis will be on the analysis of the form.
ENG 460—Comedy and Satire
A study of literary genres or sub-genres, or of other special topics. Content will vary from semester to
semester according to student and faculty interests.
ENG 542—American Literature: 1820-1870
A survey of the American Renaissance with some attention given to minor figures, but with emphasis
placed upon essays, poetry, and fiction of major authors from Irving through Whitman and Dickinson.

A survey of modern and contemporary developments in American poetry fiction, and drama.
ENG 633—American Fiction: Since 1920
An intensive study of two or more major figures such as Dreiser, Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Faulkner,
Steinbeck, Dos Passos, O'Connor, and Bellow.
HUM 211—Western Humanities Tradition: Continuity
An exploration of humanistic themes as reflected in literary and philosophical works prior to the
twentieth century.
MCG 201—Introduction to Multicultural, Class,
and Gender Studies
This course will provide students with an interdisciplinary examination of the issues concerned with
multiculturalism, economic and social class, and gender. Students will gain a broad historical
perspective of how these factors have had an impact on the formation of America as a country and
as nation in the international context.
