I went to Georgetown College from the Fall of 1986 until I graduated in 1990. I double majored in Math & Computer Science.
I was a member, along with my brother, of the President's House Association -- PHA . It is a local Christian Brotherhood. As a member of the PHA's I served as recording secretary for 1 year and music chairman for 2 years. The music chairman was in charge of the serenades, in which we went around and performed for all of the girls' dorms.
Besides the guys in the PHA house, some of my closest friends were members of the Phi Mu fraternity. My oldest sister was a member before arrived on campus. I also had PHA Lil Sisses: one is a member of the Phi Mu Fraternity, one (my first) is a Kappa Delta, and another was a Sigma Kappa.
I also served on the Student Executive Committee--SEC of the SGA. This committee was a group of 5 members who acted together in the decision making process of the SGA instead of having one President as is the case at most schools. Unfortunately, the SEC has since been replaced by a traditional form of SGA Presidency. Each member was also chair of specific committee in SGA: Student Affairs, Student Activities, Fine Arts, Special Events, and Media & Publicity. I was the Student Activities Chair. Student Activities was in charge of designing shirts to give to the Freshmen class, the 2 annual blood drives, G.L.A.D.D. week (Georetownian Leaders Against Drunk Driving), and a joint Christian concert with BSU. I helped finalize the David Meece concert in 1985. In 1986 I organized the Homecoming of Steven Curtis Chapman. Georgetown was the first College he attended. Spending a day with him and working backstage with him was one of the most awesome experiences I have had. He was very humble and truly caring and appreciative of everyone. We were fortunate to be able to afford his services because the week before he came was when he won several Dove awards for the first time. After that, his appearance fee quadrupled.
All four years I was a member of the band. I played trumpet and Baritone (Euphonium). Besides concerts we also played for the Basketball and Football Games. That was alot of fun since 2 of the four years the basketball team went to the final four of the NAIA tournament. The last 3 years, the football team went to the NAIA football playoffs. The football team won the National Championship in 1991, and the basketball team won the National Championship in 1998. I was also one of the original members of the Chapel Brass Choir. Besides our own concerts, we performed for the Madrigal Dinner, and also accompanied the Chorale to area churches and concerts.
I was also one of the the charter members of the Local Student Chapter of the Mathematical Association of America -- MAA. I served as the first President. The five Senior members that were charter members helped write the constituation and then kind of drew straws for the officers.
I served in the Georgetown College Student Foundation -- GCSF. In addition to providing scholarships to students, the GCSF's also raised the money for the scholarships through phone-a-thons, celebrity auctions, and the Annual Mud Wars (Tug of War with a pit of mud for the losers).
I put into motion the forming a local Omicron Delta Kappa -- ODK chapter. It is a national honor and service society. I found out about it since my wife was a member at Transylvania. Georgetown did not have a national honor society at the time. I never thought anything would be done about it. A couple years later I got a letter saying Georgetown was starting a chapter, and it was chartered April 14, 1996.
I worked all four years at the Bookstore which is now stupidly known as The Store. I also worked a couple years as a computer lab assistant.
