Artists Statement (Rewrite)

Last semester in my fibers class we were instructed to make a loom. We could make it however we wanted. The only resource we had to help us was the library, in which we could look up various different types of looms. I decided to make a loom that I could use everyday. What I came up with is a table. The materials I used is wood, screw eyes, various yarns, plexi glass, and battery operated fluorescent lights. The table is a cube inside a cube. I constructed a small skeleton of a cube and suspended it in the center of a larger cube. The walls are then covered with an intricate weaving pattern except for the bottom of the larger cube, which is where I placed the four fluorescent lights.

For a while I really didn’t think that I had a direction with what I wanted to do with my art. Now, I am starting to get a feel for what I want my art to look like and say. I just hope people will see my work and appreciate it. I am working on a series of tables for my fibers class. I have the first one completed. I am really excited about the new one I am working on. All I can say about it is that it’s going to involve black lights. If all goes well it’s going to be even better then the first one. Ideas just pop into my head. They pop up at the oddest times. I could be doing something totally non-art related and have tons of ideas flood my head. Sometimes it takes a long time to come up with an idea for a project. I really want my work to deal with specific ideas but sometimes it doesn’t always work out like that. Or if it does no one will ever get it. It’s one of those things I am still working on.

I look at art as something to let go with. It’s kind of like a punching bag for when you’re having a bad day, and a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow for when you’re having a great day. Everyone has there own unique style that sets them apart from the rest. I am still working on my own style to set me apart from all the others, until then, good day.
